1986 Mac vs. 2007 PC :: Who’s Faster?

Today’s Macs are far superior to today’s PC’s.  What about the Macs of yesteryear?  I found an article that compared speed tests of a 1986 Apple Macintosh Plus versus a 2007 PC with an AMD DualCore Processor.  This comparison found that for the functions that people (particularly attorneys) use most often, the ’86 Mac beat the ’07 PC in over half of the tests!  Should you run out and buy a 1986 Mac Plus?  No — but you should ditch that PC if you haven’t already done so.

    I heard a rumor once — a rumor, mind you — that Bill gates once admitted to slowing down the Mac version of Word with timing loops (early 90’s I believe) because without that slow-down, Word was so much faster on a Mac than a PC that he was afraid he’d doom the PC.
    Anyone know if there is any truth to that?
